Who are we?
We are a professional body for people from the tree nursery and ornamental plants sector in West Flanders.
The membership base mainly consists of producers of shrubs, conifers, ornamental trees, avenue trees, roses, climbing plants, forestry, perennials, herbs, heather plants, terrace plants, water plants, ground cover plants, small fruit, fruit trees and propagation material (cuttings and planting material), both grown in pots and in the open ground.
In addition, the suppliers for the tree nursery, the wholesalers in plants, the horticultural schools and the research institutions also part of the association.
AVBS
As an association, Webos affiliated with it AVBS (General Association of Belgian Floriculture), an umbrella organization that is part of the Belgian Farmers Union.
Through this umbrella, Webos succeeds in helping to develop a government policy in which our companies are integrated into one good business climate, taking into account social developments and the environment.
What we do?
Networking
It is a first objective bringing growers of garden and patio plants together and the to strengthen contacts between the various growers.
Webos organizes for this study evenings on various subjects that concern the sector, both in the field of cultivation technology, knowledge of plants, technology and the environment and in the field of business economics, including in connection with personnel, trends, marketing, legislation, etc. Every year we also organize a study trip abroad to follow developments abroad.
At our annual meeting we also take the time to summarize our activities over a pleasant meal and to catch up informally. For this we work together with our friends Webos garden contractors.
Policy
Another important task is for us to help directing government policy.
Our umbrella organisation, the AVBS (General Association of the Belgian Ornamental Horticulture) negotiates with the various authorities of the government and other Belgian and European organisations.
We are doing our part in the preparation for these negotiations and we are trying to leave a mark on the policy.
Research
In addition supporting and directing scientific and practical research is a task to which we attach great importance, as well as communicating the results of this research to our members.
Education
Finally, we also want to maintain good contact with education. After all, the youth is also our future.
Well-trained people are indispensable to keep our industry going!
